ICS-Champion 2006 is

Final Standings (see the full details in the ICS-Database):

1. #305 Thomas Schloesser  646868$
2. #625 Florian Kirchhofer 621542$
3. #108 Johannes Leemann 508273$
Race-Report 7 of 7, Saturday, 2nd December 2006 @ Homestead

Carsten Scheid wins the final race of the season!

Starting from pole Carsten Scheid could win the longest race of the season (race-time 2 hrs 28 mins). 91 laps out of 161 on the lead was a really strong performance.

Blessing in disguise for the championship-aspirant Thomas Schloesser as he got wrecked in lap 39 (see picture bellow). The 2nd candidate for the championship Florian Kirchhofer had big problems with his PC and could not be there at the show. Hence the lost money wasn't really an issue for Thomas.

Once again a well considered race of Johannes Leemann (starting from position 13 / finishing at position 6) brought him the brilliant 3rd place in the championship.

Thomas Schloesser wins at Talladega

After 18 Lead-Changes between 5 drivers, 2 Yellows (lap 6 and lap 37 of 113 race-laps) and 38 laps on the lead Thomas Schloesser drove home his first win on the International Cup Series.

Conrad Wegener who led 45 laps followed on position 2.

The leaders going 3-wide towards turn 3 ...
Brilliant job of 2 ICS-newcomers: Rolf Just qualified 7th and finished the race on podium / 3rd. Soenke Gravemeyer qualified 6th and finished 8th. One has to know that Soenke is a wheelchair user!

Johannes Leemann did the best job throughout the whole weekend and earned the most money of it, namely 91823 USD's.

Race-Report 4 of 7, Saturday, 2nd September 2006 @ California

Who can stop him?

Great job of the Hungarian Volyka Csaba! After 7 lead-changes between 5 drivers,   9 yellows and 141 laps out of 150 leading the field he was again the winner!
Even more: Once again fastest in Practice, Quali and Warmup.

Behind Volyka was a breath-taking battle with changing positions every lap among 6 to 8 drivers. Resulting with Thomas Schloesser in 2nd and Uwe Berger in 3rd position.

Lap 112 made the blood run cold when the car of the german Joerg Kormany turned to the right just within a tenth of a second and crashed into the wall due to a electrical problem in the steering system. God guarded he jumped out of his car nearly unhurt. Up to that point the german was fighting close behind Csaba and had great chances for the win - like he did it many times in the former european Thunder-Cup.

Race 4 of 7, Saturday, 2nd September 2006 @ California

California speedway sits on a 568-acre site that once hosted the first steel mill located west of the Rocky Mountains, Kaiser Steel Mill. The mill produced the steel that helped build the Liberty ships used by the Allies to win World War II.

Kaiser Steel went out of business in 1983. A few years later Penske Motorsports Inc. purchased the land and completed the track in 1997. The first race held on the track was a Winston West Series race won by Ken Schrader on June 21, 1997. Later that day, Mark Martin won an International Race of Champions event at the new facility. Jeff Gordon won the track's first Cup race the following day.

Race-Report / Race 2 of 7, Saturday, 1st July 2006 @ Daytona Night

A lot of work for the mechanics ...

at Daytona Night. Already yellow 1 in lap 4 (picture on the left) kicked 4 cars out of the race and after yellow 2 in lap 18 (picture on the right) it was over for another 4.

After the yellows it was a great race with 62 laps under green (race-length 60%=92 laps) and an exciting battle between Torsten Brandt, Florian Kirchhofer and Mike Smith. Unfortunately one of the drivers touched in lap 45 the apron and wrecked Torsten's car. At the end and 57 laps on lead Florian Kirchhofer won by just 3 hundredths of a second before Mike Smith.

A lot of work for the meachnics, but not on Flo's car. There was not even one scratch on it - great job, Flo!  ;)                                               [Photographer: TS]

18 drivers started the engines for the 240 laps at Dovers Monstermile. 11 yellows interrupted the suspence-packed race.

Race-Report / Last Testrace, Saturday, 13th May 2006 @ Phoenix

Volyka Csaba, Hungary, wins at Phoenix

Volyka Csaba, starting from pole, did it in dominating fashion, leading 143 of the 188 laps, but had to keep a close eye on Jared Smith and Thomas Schloesser in his rearview mirror while navigating through traffic.

At the end the Hungarian won 10 seconds ahead of Jared and 17 seconds ahead of Thomas. Once again an impressive race from the german who is still handicaped by his broken arm.

A great race just interrupted by 1 yellow. Gentleman-Racing as it should be.
